Certainty is not safety. We treat them as the same thing. When I know exactly what comes next, I feel protected. When I do not, I feel exposed. So we chase certainty, and we tell ourselves that is being responsible.
This is where Weird Wisdom® matters. The approach opens with its first principle, Being Comfortable with Unknowns, and it draws a line most of us blur. The unknown is the thing itself, the piece of the future we cannot see yet. Uncertainty is our response to it. One sits out in the world. The other sits inside us.
Get comfortable with the unknowns, and the uncertainty dissolves. Not because the future became clearer, but because you stopped needing it to be before you could act.
This is also why I use Action Based Research with clients. It is not a pilot, and it is not a trial run bolted onto a finished plan. It works from inside real conditions, in live work, and it lets what we learn reshape what we are doing as we go. The unknown becomes material to work with, not a risk to remove before we begin.
That is where resilience is built. Not by holding every answer before you move, but by moving while the answers are still forming, and trusting yourself to correct.
Adaptability runs the same way. People who wait for full information rarely adapt, because adapting means starting before you feel ready and adjusting as you learn.
So here is the question I keep putting to leaders. What decision are you delaying because you are waiting for a certainty that is never coming?
Move first. Learn as you go. The confidence follows.
