Difference Isn’t a Problem. It’s a Team Advantage

I’m proud to be a co-author in Global Voices Shaping the Future, releasing March 14, 2026 (Professional Speakers Celebration Day) and launching at the Global Speakers Summit in Cairns.

My chapter, Working with Difference in Teams, explores a truth many teams overlook: most team-building focuses on communication skills, strengths, or role clarity. Important, yes, but they often miss the deeper lever: how we work with difference.

This piece dives into recognising that every person brings a distinct way of seeing the world, shaped by experience, values, and interpretation. It’s not just diversity of background; it’s diversity of thought. I share how leaders can stop smoothing out differences and start working with them on purpose; spotting hidden patterns, challenging sameness, and shifting from “fit” to “contribution.”

You’ll find practical ways to build team cultures where curiosity beats conformity and where healthy tension fuels insight instead of conflict. It’s about uncovering hidden brilliance and turning difference into a real asset for collaboration and results. Not always neat. Definitely effective. And grounded in everyday team life so it can actually be used, not just admired.

Fittingly, this is exactly what Laura Baxter and the Castlemount Media team have done, bringing together 31 authors across 31 topics, each with their own voice, insight, and lived experience. The collection reflects the spirit of the Global Speakers Federation: connection, leadership, and shared ideas in action.

Growth doesn’t come from thinking alike. It comes from knowing how to work well with difference.
