Don’t dull your sparkle because it shines a light on someone else’s discomfort.” It sounds catchy, like something you’d see on a bumper sticker.
But let’s be real, it’s easier said than done. I’ve been there, done that, more times than I care to admit. Not because I wanted to blend in, not really. I dimmed my light because I just didn’t have the energy to keep it shining. Fighting against the crowd’s mentality, constantly feeling like I had to hide, it wears you down.
But, here’s a thing: showing up as your true self, as the best version of you, it’s not a walk in the park. It takes guts, determination, and a whole lot of courage. Yet, in my opinion, it’s worth every ounce of effort. Not just for me, but for everyone around me.
Because when I dare to be authentically me, I give others permission to do the same. I hope to become a beacon of hope, a reminder that it’s okay to shine, even if it makes others uncomfortable.
So, let’s keep sparkling, even when it’s tough. After all, the world needs more of our light.
